Re-stack is a sustainable carpet design made of Econyl® and wool. At the moment used mixed-fibre carpets get incinerated or end up on landfill because its hardly possible to separate the materials. Econyl® is a polyamide fibre which is made of recycled nylon waste such as unusable fishing nets and old carpet pile. The chemical process ensures a quality as good as made of new caprolactam and can be endlessly repeated. Wool is a natural fibre with terrific features and it is an over 200 year old tradition in Prato, Italy, to recycle old wool clothing and pre-consumer waste of the textile industry in a mechanical carding process.
Being separable the Re-stack retains the circularity of the used resources while being able to combine different fibres. The multi-layered weave has a patterned pile, which shows the contrasting characteristics and haptics of both fibres. After its use Re-stack can be separated into monomaterials by simply tearing it apart and is therefore easily recycable. The loop can be closed when a new generation, the Re-stack! 2.0, is woven out of regenerated Econyl® and recycled wool.
